Rashida Ray is a Fort Wayne, IN native who graduated from Paul Harding High School in 2007. Prior to graduating as a Harding Hawk she was a four-year letter winner, a three-time All-SAC selection, two-time All-Area Team pick, twice a Hoosier Basketball All-State selection, a McDonald’s All-American nominee, Sertoma Award winner, and News Sentinel Sterling Silver Award nominee. She also led Harding to four sectional championships and one regional title. While in middle school and high school Rashida played for Lady Legit and Indiana’s Finest AAU teams, and competed at the national level while playing on both.
Rashida earned a scholarship to Valparaiso University where she played basketball for four years and obtained a bachelor of science in nursing degree. In both her junior and senior year she was voted captain by her teammates. As a senior, she made seven three-point field goals against Milwaukee, ranking fourth on the all-time charts for triples made in a game. Her 7-of-8 shooting in that game also set a new school mark for three-point field goal percentage in a single game.
After graduating from Valparaiso University Rashida became the graduate assistant for the team she once played for. While Rashida was the graduate assistant she had the opportunity to further her education, and in December 2013 Rashida will have her Master’s in Nursing Education.
Rashida has high hopes of giving back to the community where she grew up in. She brings a wealth of basketball experience as well as real life experience to help young athletes become better.
